I recently got some adware installed on my computer and have spent a day trying to remove it out of my PC. However, no matter how I try, it is still there. This adware’s name is Ghostify. When I browse the web, I keep receiving a lot of ads by Ghostify on my web pages. I can close these ads but cannot remove them completely. I have run my antivirus program (AVG) to scan my computer system but it cannot detect the adware and surely cannot clean it. How can I remove Ghostify adware for good? Please help me.
What Is Ghostify?
Ghostify serves as an adware program that shows you lots of ads when browsing the web, especially when you are shopping online. Its motive is to earn money. An adware program usually shows annoying ads, install unwanted toolbars and change your browser’s settings without any permission. And so Ghostify does. Once installed on your PC, this adware could modify your browser’s settings so to show various advertising content like coupons, deals, offers, banners, or popup ads on the pages you are viewing. Typically, these ads are labeled with characters like “Ads by Ghostify” or “Brought by Ghostify”. Some of these ads can be temporarily closed but some don’t have any button for you to click and close them. These ads cannot be completely blocked or removed, either. This is because that the adware has taken control over your whole browser and keep showing the ads on your browser.
Is Ghostify Harmful?
Normally, most adware programs including Ghostify are not harmful; they are, at most, annoying. But these days they have become the source of other malware and can harm your PC seriously. As we have mentioned above, Ghostify can generate a sort of ads on your browser. However, not all of these ads are safe for you to click. Some of them may be deceiptive and misleading, in order to attract your clicks. If you click on a certain ad window out of interest, you would get a chance to be redirected to some dangerous websites and unknowingly download malware programs on your PC. These malware programs could delete your system files, erase your data, or steal your confidential information. To avoid the unwanted problems from happening, an immediate removal of Ghostify is necessary.
How Does Ghostify Get Installed on Your PC Unknowingly?
Like other adware programs, Ghostify often gets installed when you install freeware that is a downloaded from an unreliable source. Usually, it is built into some free software; however, you won’t be noticed that there will be an additional program before you download that free software. It has been an open secret that software developers bundle some additional programs with their software in order to make their own products free. Generally, if you select the Recommended installation mode, you may not know that there are some other programs bundled with the software you desire until you finish the installation.
